everyday makeup

This is generally the makeup I wear everyday. Obviously I'll switch it up sometimes with lipsticks and blusher but in terms of my base (primer/foundation/concealer/powder) I usually stick to these products, If it's not broke don't fix it ;)

Sleek blush by 3 palette in 'lace'

(Crochet, Guipure, Chantilly)

I picked this palette up about a month or so ago and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to get it. It has 3 shades and I would wear all 3 of them! All of them are quite orange toned and I like this as I tend to steer towards coral/peachy blushes anyway. They're all very pigmented so you have to be careful when applying because a little goes a long way. I like how there are the two matte shades (Crochet & Chantilly) and the one shade with a lovely gold shimmer (Guipure). Usually I tend to go for matte shades but I actually think my favourite shade is Guipure, it gives such a lovely glow and looks amazing with a tan! I really can't wait to wear these in summer because they're all such fun bright summery shades :)

For £9.99 I think they're quite the bargain! For 3 intensely pigmented blushes with a decent amount of product in each I think these are a great buy.

They had other shades of these too in: Pumpkin, Flame, Pink Spirit and Sugar. I personally think this was the most wearable palette out of the 5 though.

search for the perfect foundation #2

Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation - £37 (shade 40 - beige)

Coverage: 4.5/5
Application: 5/5
Long Lasting: 5/5
Shade: 5/5

As you can probably tell, I'm absolutely in LOVE with this foundation. It has literally everything I would look for in a foundation and more. I applied this with my real techniques buffing brush but found it goes on just as easily with my fingers too. It blended in so effortlessly and when it's actually on the skin it feels so silky to touch which I've never experienced from a foundation before. I would say the coverage is medium but is definitely build-able and doesn't look at all cakey on. It has a semi-matte finish, which I like and I find that I don't need to powder this and it still lasts all day (Which on my oily t-zone is amazing!). It has quite a strong fruity smell to it so if you have problems with sensitive skin or perfumes in cosmetics this one may not be for you, but I personally love it. Also the fact that it has SPF10 in is a nice extra and even with flash it photographs nicely. I think the only down side of this 'perfect' foundation is the not-so-perfect price tag of £37.. ouch! However this is genuinely the best foundation I've ever tried so I would definitely repurchase.

next up i'll be trying MAC pro-longwear :)...

search for the perfect foundation #1

Okay, so I know it's pretty much impossible to find the 'perfect' anything! But this is going to be be a series of posts to test out and try and find a foundation that's as close to perfection (for me) as possible. I've been testing out a few different foundations recently and I've collected a few samples from some counters to test out.
What I look for in a foundation is a medium-heavy coverage, without looking cakey obviously, a semi matte finish and I have combination skin and I find anything that claims to be 'dewy' tends to make me look shiny a few hours in to wearing it and finally I like a yellow toned shade as I'm naturally quite pink so I like to counteract that! And also as I usually wear fake tan it tends to blend in better. Also if anyone is wondering about what shades I use (if you're similar to me) I'm NC25/NC30 in MAC foundations for reference :)

Estee Lauder Invisible Foundation - £27.00

Coverage: 3.5/5
Application: 5/5
Long lasting: 4.5/5
Shade: 3.5/5

When I first applied this I was quite impressed, I used my fingers to apply it and found that it blended in really easily. It was quite sheer at first, maybe a bit too sheer than I would usually like so I applied a second layer and found this did the trick. It also felt nice a light on the skin which I liked. In terms of staying power it lasted pretty much all day which I was actually really surprised at, so very impressed at that! One of the only things I wasn't too impressed at was that it was slightly pink toned, and I tend to go for more yellow toned foundations but maybe I just need a different shade! The fact that it doesn't have spf in it puts me off a bit though but it does mean that it photographs quite true to colour in flash photography though. Overall I was impressed with this but there were a few things that may stop me paying the £27 for it.

Next review will be the Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation so look out for that soon...

My Eyebrows

I've become pretty obsessed with my eyebrows the past few months, it might have something to do with the fact that since I've stated working for Benefit (at one of the boutiques in London where we have brow bars too) I have been trained in how to actually do brows, as in wax, tint, shape etc. And I absolutely LOVE it! I love doing other people's brows and seeing the transformation and how it completely just changes someones look. So I thought I'd show you the transformation in my eyebrows over the years...

eyebrows2

So the first picture is what my eyebrows are like naturally (please excuse the scary huge pupils! I had taken some eye drops for an eye infection.. anyway this is the only picture I could find of my brows naturally) and as you can see they're basically invisible! They were like this up until I was about 16 because I didn't really know what to do with them and was too scared to fill them in because it really made me look so different. Thankfully though I finally did something about them and started ti fill them in.

The second picture is my eyebrows without any product on and not filled in. As you can see I have them tinted now and to keep the shape I wax them, usually I do it myself or sometimes one of the other girls I work with does it. I personally much prefer waxing to threading as I think it hurts less and gives just as nice a shape.

The last picture is of my brows filled in with Benefit's browzings powder and wax duo in 'light'.I really like this product because I think it looks quite natural and it's quite easy to control how much of the powder and wax you apply. Also I just use a slanted eyebrow brush to apply it. I mainly use it at the front of my brows because this is where the hair is quite sparse and I like to have quite a square shape to them. Some people may think that my eyebrows are to dark, or thick, or bold but this is how I personally like them :)

browzings

But as you can see a bit of eyebrow grooming makes SUCH a different and I'm really quite happy with how my brows are at the moment and I would really recommend browzings for filling them in.

Hervana

Working for Benefit certainly has its... ermm Benfefits (sorry for thre pun!). Especially working in the boutiques, where we usually get to release new products before the concessions. It means as soon as we get new stock in such as testers we get to have a bit of a play around. Even though this product has already been released in the US and by the time I post this it will have probably been released in the UK too, I wanted to talk about the newest box powder from Benefit - Hervana.

hervana box

To be completely honest when I first saw preview images of this new blush I was veryyyyy skeptical as the colour range seemed very purple, not really my thing! Reading reviews on the US site didn't help either as almost everyone was comparing it to Dandelion and the newly discontinued (thank god!) Throb. Basically I though it was going to be another very pale, pastel (not in a good way, more like in a poorly pigmented way) blush that would only suit pale skin types, like the previously mentioned.

mehervana

I was happily surprised when I finally got my hands on this little beaut though! Everything I thought that it would be, it in fact wasn't. Hervana is a lovely, almost matte, berry shade blush with a surprising amount of pigment that suits basically any skin tone. In terms of the packaging I can't really fault it either, I really quite like the purple toned heaven theme, plus the new packaging comes with a little mirror and a better quality brush! Sounds perfect right? Well actually, yeah it pretty much is in my opinion! Maybe it's because it's my new shiny toy that I don't want to stop playing with but I genuinely can't stop myself from reaching for Hervana in the morning to complete my look.
